year-end lists linger online for years,
while time slogs on, tastes change,
people die, teams lose & win, books
get remaindered, pets run away &
return, music is forgotten & discovered,
the wheel spins & spins & spins &
we yearn for something better this
turn around but no, it's another year
just like the others never truly
exceeding expectations but surprising
us in the morning mirror with our mortality
